The causes of this error include using the older version of QuickBooks or problems with the file position, such as access permissions. This error can be overcome by following the below-listed steps :

Solution 1: Turn off hosting on your workstation.

Ensure that the Host Multi-User Access option is off. Workstations are the computers connected to your network that do not host your company files. Following the below process should help you solve I am getting an error while opening my company file -

  • Open up QuickBooks on one of the workstations.
  • Instead of opening the company file, choose the File menu and move over to Utilities.
  • If you see the Host Multi-User Access option, please do not click it. Move on to the next workstation as the current one is not the root of the problem.
  • If Stop Hosting Multi-User Access is an available option, kindly choose it.
  • Replicate all of these steps on all your workstations.

After you check all your workstations, move forward to your server computer. The server computer is the one that nominally hosts your company files.

  • Open up QuickBooks on the server computer.
  • Open the File menu and hover over Utilities.
  • If Host Multi-User Access is an available option, please select it.
  • Toggle the on-screen settings. Repeat this process and choose the Stop Hosting Multi-User Access option. This step will reset Multi-user Mode.
  • Repeat the process once more and choose the Host Multi-User Access option. You shall have hopefully resolved queries such as I am unable to open Company File in my QuickBooks.

  • Your file position may be causing issues, so transfer it to your Windows desktop. Follow the below-listed steps acutely to resolve I am unable to open QuickBooks -

  • Type in File Explorer into the Search box and open up the result.
  • Search for the folder incorporating your company file.
